Vernon Thiessen - Beloit KS
10/2/1925 - 6/22/2010

A long and productive life ended on June 22, 2010 for Vernon Lee Thiessen, 84, of Beloit, son of Ernest and Anna Schmeil Thiessen, who was born on October 2, 1925, in Beloit, KS. Vernon graduated from Beloit High School in 1943. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Beloit Elks Club, Isis Shrine, and Masonic Lodge. Vernon was a lifetime farmer/stockman. Although his passion was raising cattle, he took great pride in maintaining and growing the family farmstead. He was a quiet, honest, hard-working man. His word and handshake were a binding contract. This concept was instilled in his children. On January 22, 1955, he married Ann Dwerlkotte in Marysville, KS, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. They were fortunate to celebrate 55 years of marriage. To this union were born eight children.

Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife, Ann L. (Dwelkotte) Thiessen, sons, Doug and wife, Arlene, of Beloit, Michael of Overland Park, KS, and Tom and wife, Pam, of Beloit, daughters, Janet Theissen of Tracy, CA, Barbara Thiessen and husband, Bob Kutchko, of Merriam, KS, Colleen Thiessen of Topeka and Karen Thiessen of Burke, VA, sisters, Betty Gentleman of Beloit, and Carol Darnell of Columbia, MO; 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Bill, his sister, Marjorie, and his beloved son, Jim.

Visitation will be Friday, June 25, 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 PM, with Rosary following at 7:00 PM at St. John's Catholic Church. The service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, June 26, at St. John's Catholic Church in Beloit. Interment will be at St. John's Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Memorial Trust Fund.
